The Golden SEEDS Foundation Receives $880,000 ARPA Grant to Transform Oak Cliff's "The Bottom".

The Golden S.E.E.D.S. Foundation (TGSF) is proud to announce that Dallas County Commissioner’s Court awarded a significant grant of $880,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). This substantial grant will be allocated towards the construction of new homes for both current and future residents of Oak Cliff's historic "The Bottom" neighborhood. The project aims to enhance the community's living conditions and promote sustainable growth.

"The Bottom" neighborhood, with its rich history and cultural significance, has been a cornerstone of Oak Cliff for generations. TGSF's commitment to revitalizing this community through strategic projects has now received a powerful boost with the ARPA grant.

The $880,000 grant will primarily fund the first phase of the construction project, involving the development of new affordable homes. This phase also encompasses critical flood mitigation and sump fill measures that are essential for the initiation of the construction process. The ARPA grant will play a pivotal role in addressing housing affordability while simultaneously safeguarding against flooding risks in the area.

TGSF's dedication to the "The Bottom" community extends beyond housing development. The organization is actively engaged in multiple initiatives aimed at fostering holistic community improvement. These include a Beautification Project, centered around a green infrastructure initiative that involves the planting of native trees and ground cover. This initiative is designed to enhance the overall aesthetics and ecological well-being of the neighborhood.

"We are profoundly grateful for the ARPA grant, as it aligns perfectly with our vision of creating a vibrant and sustainable community within 'The Bottom'," said Libbie Terrell Lee, Executive Director of TGSF. "Our holistic approach aims to provide not just housing, but an enriched living experience that prioritizes the well-being of residents and the environment alike."
